THE CHALLENGE FOR A SUSTAINABLE FOOD – 3rd edition of the free activism school for Under 30s

The current world food system is responsible for a third of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere and, at the same time, is one of the economic sectors most affected by global warming.
Changing the patterns of food production and consumption is therefore one of the main challenges to be faced in trying to mitigate and adapt to the ongoing climate change.
Cities, where 80% of global CO2 emissions are produced and 80% of GDP, are the primary places in which to make this change. The Mani Tese school “FOOD, CLIMATE AND CITY” was created with the aim of strengthening the technical and political skills of 30 young activists and activists and establishing a contact group between youth networks, associations and NGOs operating at an urban and peri-urban level. on the topic.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The “FOOD, CLIMATE AND CITY” school is aimed at young activists aged between 20 and 30, domiciled in the cities of Milan or Turin (and neighboring areas), who wish to acquire the tools for competent activation
and aware of climate change and in particular, within the Food Wave project, of the connections between food, climate and cities.
In the selection of participants, priority will be given to candidates who explicitly express their willingness to engage in the international community of activists of the Food Wave project even beyond the duration of the training event.

WHERE AND WHEN?

The school will take place in Milan in May 2022.Given the goal of establishing a cohesive group that can collaborate even after the end of school, a commitment to participate in at least 75% of the meetings is required.

Saturday 14 May from 10.00 to 17.00
Tuesday 17 May from 18.00 to 20.00 (online)

Unless otherwise specified, the activities will take place in the presence, compatibly with the evolution of the epidemic. Lunches will be offered by the organizers. In the event of an emergency, the program will be
developed, in whole or in part, remotely.

HOW?
The school will use an experiential training approach (learning by doing) structured according to three main
axes, complementary to each other:
KNOWLEDGE, the content axis. We will explore the map of the connections between food policies and
climate change, we will identify the “blocks” that prevent the transition to a sustainable food system and
we will reflect together on how to remove them.
DISCOVERY, the research axis. We will get to know those who are already moving around the city on these
issues to find out how they deal with them, we will compare their experiences and ask ourselves how to get
them to talk to each other.
CREATIVE COLLABORATION, the axis dedicated to community organizing and advocacy. The wave of change
needs participation, creativity and ideas. What are yours? How to promote them within the communities,
large and small, to which we belong?
