Community engagement on food and climate change

Although young people have little opportunity to make their voices heard, they are willing to shape their cities’ future. An alliance of local authorities, within the EU-funded Food Wave project, has put youth participation in the limelight, with the aim of empowering its role as changemakers. The workshop, held wihin the European Week of Regions and Cities 2023, will focus on a format developed during the project to promote young people’s participation while promoting community engagement on the themes of food, climate change and sustainability.

About Metropolitan Agency of Brașov

Brașov Metropolitan Agency emerged in 2006 from the desire for cooperation between Brașov City Hall, the county council and the town halls in the area. In 2007 it became an Intercommunity Development Association and currently we have 18 members: the municipality, the county council and 16 other mayoralties, which together form the Brașov metropolitan area. Our goal is to facilitate cooperation between member communities, for the sustainable, economic, social and cultural development of the area. To achieve this goal, we develop various actions and projects, independently or in partnership. This is also the case of the Food Wave - Empowering Urban Youth for Climate Action project.

Almere is the second largest city in the Amsterdam Area. Located in the province of Flevoland,  Almere was built on land that was reclaimed from the sea in a feat of Dutch engineering. Now, more than 40 years later the area has been developed into well-planned residential areas with parks, lakes, modern infrastructure and excellent transport connections. Almere has 211,704 inhabitants (January, 2020). The municipality of Almere comprises the city districts Almere Stad, Almere Haven, Almere Buiten, Almere Hout and Almere Poort.
